Avila Offices: Redefining Contemporary Workspaces

An Interior Design Project by Jofre Roca Calaf

Avila Offices is a reform of a seven-floor office building in the heart of Barcelona's 22@ district. Designed by renowned architect Jofre Roca Calaf, this project aims to create open and contemporary spaces that promote well-being and creativity.

The inspiration for Avila Offices came from the desire to transform the existing building into a more inviting and modern workspace. Roca Calaf envisioned a design that would not only enhance the functionality of the space but also create an atmosphere of tranquility and health. The exterior seamlessly merges with the interior, blurring the boundaries between the building and its surroundings.

One of the standout features of Avila Offices is the dignified entrance. A vibrant green wall extends from the facade to the interior, inviting pedestrians to step inside. The lobby, with its glass walls, offers a glimpse of the vibrant activity happening within. This transparency enhances the permeability of the space, creating a sense of openness and connectivity.

The interior furniture, including chairs, tables, and reception furniture, as well as the lighting fixtures, were specially designed for this project. Raw steel and wood were chosen as the main materials, creating a cohesive and harmonious aesthetic throughout the space. This attention to detail gives Avila Offices a unique identity and sets it apart from other office designs.

With a total area of 1,062 square meters, Avila Offices provides ample space for various activities and meetings. The design promotes flexibility and adaptability, allowing for both formal and informal gatherings. The well-lit and ventilated spaces contribute to a pleasant and healthy working environment.

The Avila Offices project was completed in January 2019 in Barcelona. It was the result of winning a private competition to reform the existing office building, which was originally constructed in 2002. The challenges faced during the renovation included reimagining all the common spaces of the building, such as the lobby, stairs, reception area, and bathrooms. Roca Calaf's proposal successfully maintained coherence in terms of form, materials, and construction systems.

Avila Offices has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious accolade is given to designs that demonstrate innovation, practicality, and adherence to professional and industrial standards. Avila Offices stands as a testament to Jofre Roca Calaf's commitment to creating exceptional workspaces that inspire and elevate the human experience.
